Does it still count as a barn find...

Does it still count as a barn find if i'm the idiot that abandoned it in the barn?

Back in 1993 I was in high school and bought my first car with my own money. It was a 1962 Buick Skylark 2 door hardtop. The car was love at first site. It had been refurbished sometime in the 1980s and was in great condition. I drove it all through high school doing the repairs and maintenance myself. Soon after graduation I was working full time and going to school at night. I bought a cheap Chevy pickup and drove it to work, it was a factory job and I got too filthy to get in my Buick. I still drove the Buick as often as I could. One day out of the blue the engine started knocking. I pulled it into my Aunt and Uncle's barn and started getting ready to pull the engine for a rebuild... That was as far as I got

Fast forward to 2017. My cousin was forced to move back in with his parents and started clearing the rode down to the old barn. He called me and said I should come get the Buick because some kids had been messing with it. So last weekend I loaded up my Jeep with tools and recovery equipment and we winched it up to the end of the driveway behind the house.

Needless to say that even though the car has been covered it is a far cry from what I parked back in the 90's. The interior is all dry rotted and full of rodent droppings. The outside is covered in an inch of grime. Someone snapped the front hood trim in two. The driver's mirror and the original hubcaps have been stolen. The front passenger drum brake is seized. The rear roll pan and bumper are rusty.

Hopefully this weekend we can load it up on the trailer and bring it home. I plan to pressure wash it first thing and start going over it in detail. One good thing is my 10 year old daughter is really exited to make it a father daughter project. I did a frame off rebuild on my old Jeep CJ7, so i'm no stranger to the work and time involved rebuilding a vehicle.

Hello Zack and welcome to our group -- that's quite the interesting story you have there.  I'd say it's a barn find still! Smile

Look forward to watching your progress!  Keep us posted!

Josh
