Coil Springs - OPGI
Has anyone used the drop coils from OPGI for the 4 door Special?

About to drop a 62 Cutlass onto 1" drop Eatons. I'll let you know how it works. OPGIs appear to be less money. Some will cut a stock spring but it's not the same.

Did you ever get around to putting in the 1" drop eatons cutlass? Was it the fronts? Ive already replaced my rears with Moogs and will be cutting them to drop but I want to get the fronts replaced first and if I have a a drop in the front after replacement it would give me a spot to shoot for when cutting. Please advise.
TIA

Re: Coil Springs - OPGI
Well, you know what "about to" means in this hobby. They are installed and the car is sitting on it's suspension with jack stands supporting it but I still have not put the car on the ground and driven the car. I am "about to" do that but have not driven the car since bringing it back up with new eng/trans/brakes etc after sitting for 45 years. Anyway the tire position looks good, but the car hasn't been driven so the springs haven't had a chance to settle in. Cutting is certainly one way to get the drop but when looking at the 1" drop Eatons you see that the wire is heavier gauge than stock to supply the same spring rating as the longer coils, only with fewer coils. Cut a coil and you lower the spring rating. Call Eaton if you have't already and they can explain or go on their web site, I think it has some good info there although I haven't been on it for some time. As soon as I lower it to the ground and drive it around, soon I hope, I'll update and send a pic.

I won't cut the fronts if the Eatons you have settle out nice. I was saying I'd cut the rears once the fronts have been replaced and I have a spot to shoot for. I don't want to cut the rears though till the fronts have also been replaced. Hope that makes sense. I was on Eaton's site several times while trying to decide on the springs for the rear and am familiar with what cutting does to a spring rate. Did your Eaton springs have a part # or did you just talk with them and they provided you with something?

Understand your method and sounds right to me. I gotta see if I have an invoice with a PN but I know I talked with them and they recommended. They also have the isolaters for the springs. I got them over a year ago and put a rear sway bar on from ADDCO (which needed some adapting) and boxed the rear control arms at the same time. Can send some pics of that if you are interested.

Here's my final post on oldsjetfire.com on the subject. Could be a new subject.
Finally have the sway bar installed. Addco made a larger anchor plate for me with one side extended out to 7.5 inches to form a trapezoid so I could fully extend across the bottom of the trailing arm. Be easy to make one. I trimmed it to fit. I also asked them to not drill mounting holes for the trailing arm and I used existing holes-a 1/2 inch hole toward the spring and the hole the ebrake bracket mounts to which I drilled out the 3/8″, marked the plate and drilled the mounting holes. The trailing arm is fully boxed and welded with a full plate on the bottom, internal V shaped pieces side to side at the holes providing full vertical support for the mounting bolts as well as a small plate at both ends. Provided ventilation for all cavities. Won’t be on the road until Spring and I find out how the bar works, hope it’s not too much cause there doesn’t appear to be any other options.
